Out of the Hospital and Back Home
We left the hospital today. As luck would have it, the most comfortable place in my house for me to sit is in the chair I'm typing from right now, so I wanted to provide a quick update.
Surgery went very well and without any complications. Within 18 hours of the repair, I was no longer having muscle spasms when I coughed. I don't think I've slept more than four hours total any night since the accident (May 8th), but getting even close to comfortable seems to be an impossibility at present. I've got bad road rash over my left hip where I fell (good three stinging layers deep), two long and lovely incisions across my guts, and 32 staples keeping them closed. My left home is the host of three new titanium alloy plates and a bunch of surgical screws keeping my ol' bones held together and "stable."
There's a lot to say about all of this, but I want to collect my thoughts and get some pics uploaded so I can post them for reference. A few of them are pretty gnarly, if not altogether and completely unflattering.
My wife's knees are finally on the mend. Her feet quit swelling and the skin is growing back now over the wounds. She still limps a bit when she walks, but the movement doesn't bother her nearly as much. I'm confident she'll feel and move much better over the next 10 days. I hope the same is true for me. It will be because it must be, and I must make sure that happens. So be it.
A lot of people all over the US and Thailand prayed for me and my wife, expressed well-wishes, and offered assistance of this kind or another. Some people even came to the hospital to donate blood for my surgery. My missus and I are extremely grateful. I've got a lot of people to thank by name and will in the more detailed post to come.
I'm not at all happy we had this accident, but we met some truly incredible people on this journey, and I had an experience I'm not sure many expats have here in the Land of Smiles. That happens to be another reason to feel tremendously grateful.
That's it for now. I'm going to do a vid on my YouTube channel about my experience as well, but it will take time to get everything done. I'm a bit low in the starch department at present, and now have daily appointments with a walker and a short path around my house.
Thanks for your time reading my lil' update here. Now get off my lawn! =P
